Workshop: Fabulous Faces Workshop with Jean Impey

🎨 The Magic of Fabulous Faces – Freddy Style (1-Day Workshop)
This workshop grew out of her collaboration with the legendary Freddy Moran. Using glue sticks and fabric collage, students create up to three playful portrait blocks. She will demonstrate her two signature quilting techniques: “pencil quilting” and “sketchy quilting,” which give these faces their finished charm. No sewing is required during class—it’s all about the design and composition. Great for all skill levels!

In Preparation for making up to THREE portraits during the class, please bring the following materials:

1.Background Fabric: Choose a selection of background fabrics for your portraits. Fat quarters work well for this purpose.

2. Scraps and Fat Quarters: Collect an assortment of scraps and fat quarters for the creative “painting” of facial features. Be ready to experiment with a wide variety of fabrics.

3.Larger Scale Novelty Fabrics: Look for larger scale novelty fabrics that can add character to your portraits. Consider motifs that could resemble eyes, round or oval shapes or even peacock feathers. These fabrics are perfect for fussy cutting.

4.Cutting Tools: Bring along essential cutting tools, including scissors, a rotary cutter, and cutting mat.

5.Glue Stick: A critical tool for this class. Ensure you have an adequate supply of glue sticks, and we recommend using Elmer’s Washable School Glue Sticks.  Look for the ones with the purple-colored glue material.  You can purchase these where school supplies are sold.

6.Sewing, Quilting, and Finishing Supplies: In this class we will not be sewing. Jean will demonstrate how to quilt, double quilt and bind  portraits and you should have no problems replicating her techniques at home.

Get ready to embark on a creative journey as you finish your portrait and write his/her exciting story.

Example: All set for the party, CHARLOTTE searched every nook, calling for Mittens, her mischief-loving cat.  Tired she glanced in the mirror to adjust her curls-then gasped.  Mittens was nestled in her updo, fur and claws tangled in every cur. Purring smugly, he’d turned her once-perfect hair into a chaotic masterpiece.

Bring your own lunch or enjoy the Mexican restaurant next door.
